Inspired by actual events…Lindsey and Trevor are the perfect couple, who have just had the perfect wedding in Hawaii and are about to go on the perfect honeymoon on a cruise ship. It starts out like every other fairytale honeymoon - sex, sun and enough champagne to float the giant boat they’re sailing on. After a few blissful days locked up together in their cozy cabin, the inseparable couple finally ventures outside to enjoy the clear blue skies, vast ocean views and numerous luxurious amenities the cruise ship offers. It’s not long before the two begin to interact with other passengers. While sunning by the pool, Lindsey strikes up a conversation with Kim, a bubbly, promiscuous girl vacationing alone. And Trevor meets three menacing men who love to party, a little too hard for Lindsey’s taste. Still, everyone becomes fast friends and the gang hangs out the next few nights together, partying poolside, gambling at the casino, and dancing at the various clubs on the ship. But when Trevor catches one of the boys dancing a little too closely to his girl, he flies into a rage. A vicious fight erupts between the men. It takes Lindsey, Kim, and the entire crew to separate the two drunken brawlers. Once separated and still heated from the fight, Lindsey and Trevor start to head back to their cabin.
The next morning…after a routine check up on passengers, crew members discover Trevor and Lindsey are missing. The ship is put on high alert! Finally, after an exhaustive search of the vessel, Lindsey is found in a vacant stairwell, bloody and confused with no recollection of what happened the night before. Immediately, a full-on investigation is launched by the ship’s Chief Security officer and spearheaded by vacationing FBI agent, Gwen Merced (though it's an informal investigation because maritime laws are murky and jurisdictions overlap in international waters preventing officials from enforcing the laws of any single nation).
After a preliminary gathering of evidence, Gwen immediately casts suspicion over the 3 men because they all have prior criminal records. Lindsey further implicates the men by exposing a secret Kim had told her in confidence - that Kim was assaulted earlier by one of the men. However, the deeper Agent Merced digs into the supposed crimes of the three men, the more she finds holes in Lindsey's story. It's becoming more possible by the minute that Lindsey may have murdered her newlywed husband and is manipulating everyone from the cruise ship staff, to local authorities, to family and friends, and even the audience at home, as the story has now gained national news attention. But before Agent Merced can pursue her suspicions, she discovers the cruise line, working alongside Lindsey’s lawyers, has flown the “grieving widow” off the ship, essentially aiding her escape from all the evidence of her possible crime of passion and the floating prison that held her captive. With no true authority at sea, Gwen has to bite her tongue and can only stand by and watch as the cruise line’s corporate lawyers, even after Lindsey remains elusive for 6 months after Trevor’s disappearance, reach a settlement with Lindsey and the Forrest estate (which she controls) thus closing the investigation. Trevor is presumed lost at sea.
