In 2007, Seattle college student Amanda Knox moved to Perugia, Italy for a year of studying abroad. On November 1, her British roommate, Meredith Kercher, was found in her bedroom with her throat slit. Police initially thought it was a Satanic ritual gone awry, but soon evidence suggested that Amanda, her Italian boyfriend Raffaelle Sollecito, and a drifter named Rudy Guede murdered Meredith. The salacious nature of the case created an international media frenzy. Amanda was convicted of first-degree murder in December 2009 and served 4 years of her 26-year sentence in an Italian prison, before her case was overturned.
